Show-up Sunday — How To Win in Life

This changed my life forever

Welcome to #7 of Show-Up Sunday! 👋

*Gathered all the medals I’ve ever won hahaha*

Reading time: 4 minutes

A year ago, I started to question my career.

“The default path“ wasn’t feeling like it was the right path.

I started to find side hustles so I can quit. In 1 year, I changed lots of paths because I didn’t know this golden rule.

Today, I’ll show you what changed my life.

1 year ago, I decided that I want to leave “The Matrix “.

Gs call the standard path like this hahaha. It’s quite funny.

Anyway.

I was pretty good at coding.

So I decided to get into android app development. I was dreaming of becoming the next Zuckerberg. Building a social media app in a few weeks and becoming a billionaire overnight.

I even bought a license for being able to launch my apps on Google Store.

I started to learn a new programming language to be able to create android apps.

After I had learned the fundamentals, I started to build an app by following a tutorial.

All good, the app finished in 2 days. Launched it in a few hours.

Went to sleep and when I woke up, guess what happened?

Nothing.

I was still broke and nobody downloaded the app except me and a few friends of mine.

I said to myself:

“This isn’t for me. I have to find something else. “

That’s what I did.

I went into web development and freelancing. I was already dreaming about how I’ll become a digital nomad and I’ll travel the world with my Macbook.

But, after a few months, I dropped out with the same mentality.

"This isn't for me."

I repeated this process of getting into a new side hustle, learning for a few weeks/ months, and failing for almost 1 year.

I didn't know why I wasn't succeeding.

I was thinking that I wasn't made for this kind of life and I had to get back to the standard path.

If you believe the same, trust me, that's not true.

"But Savu, what's the problem then?"

Well, there're 3 reasons.

  1. You expect that work should be always funny and exciting.

  2. You don't stick with the process long enough.

  3. You believe that you have to do what you love in order to succeed.

All the reasons are just beliefs that have been told to you by society.

And none of them are true.

Let's break down each of them.

You expect that work should be always funny and exciting.

"If it's not like this, how it should be?"

Well, it is, and it isn't.

When you start something new, the excitement hits hard.

But as you're learning it and making progress it becomes boring.

Mostly because you end up doing the same stuff over and over again.

Every time when I got up to this point of doing the repetitive and boring stuff over and over again, I became less interested in what I was doing, and I started to look after something else or quit.

And that's the problem.

You quit and you start something new again because you don't find that excitement anymore.

In order to succeed you need to understand that boring work has to be done.

Boring work brings extraordinary results.

When you do the same task a lot of times you become extremely good.

How can you solve this problem?

Embrace the boredom.

Always look for:

  • how you can do better what you do.

  • what you can improve.

  • find patterns in your work.

This way you'll start to find the boring work interesting and exciting.

You don't stick with the process long enough.

We're surrounded by instant gratification.

Cheap dopamine in other words.

People always look for the fastest way to get results. The truth is everything worthwhile in life takes time.

So, stop looking for "The fastest way to make money."

I was always expecting results after a few weeks or months.

But you need to change your perspective.

It takes months, probably years to build long-lasting things.

When you start a side hustle, give yourself 6 months.

Be consistent for the next 6 months work consistently for what you want.

Trust me, there's no way to not see results.

You believe that you need to do what you love in order to succeed.

This is one of the biggest lies that have been sold to us.

When you start something new, you suck.

Of course, it's like this.

You'll never love something if you are bad at it.

If you are bad, you can't love it. It's normal to be this way.

In high school, I was one of the worst students when it came to writing.

When I started to write on Twitter my tweets were awful, and I hated to write.

But because I continued to show up every day, I became better.

As I became better, I started to like writing tweets and threads.

In the beginning, I was struggling with writing a few tweets and now I write newsletters of thousands of words.

Even if in the beginning you don't like it because you're bad, if you do it for long enough you end up loving it because you get good.

What I told you works.

I experimented with it.

Over the last 6 months, I've built a +500 audience on Twitter.

Just because I applied what I've told you:

I did the boring work.

I understood that great results take time.

I faced the fact that you don't like doing something you're not good at it.

You can win in life if you understand this golden rule:

Greatness is built by doing boring work for long enough without expecting to be good in the beginning.

If you're still here, probably you enjoy reading what I write.

And if you're a coach or a business owner making 5 to 6 figures per year, and you struggle with:

  • Leads or sales.

  • Growing your Twitter account

  • Strengthening your brand.

Shot me a message on Twitter and see if I can help you overcome those problems.

(I’ll respond in less than 24h)

If you just like reading my stuff, I really appreciate for taking your time for me.

It means a lot.

It's time to wrap this up.

But don't forget until next time:

Show up daily and make your life worth living.

Adios amigos!
