Show-Up Sunday — 5 lessons I wish I knew earlier

I've turned 19 a week ago.

Welcome to #4 of Show-Up Sunday! 👋

*Happy birthday to me! 🥳*

Reading time: 4.5 minutes

Let me apologize first.

Last weekend was a mess. I had been to a Robotics competition, and I got home on Sunday at 11:30 PM.

Also, the next day was my birthday and I wanted to spend it with my family and friends.

As a result, I haven’t had time to send the newsletter.

I’m sorry for that.

Now, let’s get to the point.

One week ago, I turned 19 years old.

I went through a lot of experiences over these years. I learned a lot of insightful lessons.

But I learned most of them over the past 5 months. Since I started to write on Twitter.

Today, I’ll tell you 5 lessons that I wish I knew earlier.

19 years old.

This is my last teenagedom year.

I’m not some old wise man.

I’m just 19. But I believe that I learned a lot. And I hope that these lessons that I’m about to show you are going to help you to become at least 1% better.

Lesson No.1

You should take full responsibility for everything that happens to you.

No one cares about your circumstances. And more importantly, no one comes to save your ass. That’s the reality.

When you blame:

  • Your environment

  • People around you

  • Outside factors

You’re just wasting your time. Nothing else.

Use that time to focus on taking action towards your dreams and goals.

99% of the time the only one who should be blamed is you.

It’s your fault that you don’t have the life that you want.

Lesson No.2

Lower the expectations as much as you can.

Expectations are your self-made beliefs that you create to design your future in your head.

All the time we tend to raise the bar way too much and then the reality comes, and she hits us straight in the head.

Reality breaks the world that we created in our heads.

Then you become sad or disappointed.

We can’t totally get rid of expectations.

The lower the bar of expectations, the lower the disappointments will be.

Lesson No.3

Luck or overnight success doesn’t exist.

You create your success. You do it by being consistent for a long time.

We should treat success like it is an iceberg.

The surface above the water represents the results, the fame and the realizations that you have right now.

But an iceberg it’s not only above the water. An iceberg goes under the water as well.

You see, if you look under the water you’ll find:

  • Struggles

  • Self-doubt moments

  • All the hard work

The funny part is that 80% of the iceberg is under the water and most people never think about it.

And besides, the funny part comes with a problem.

This a problem that a lot of people face nowadays. They don’t look at all the success structure. They look only at the surface.

They want it. It’s normal. But because they are not aware of how success is achieved, they start, they don’t see immediate results and they quit after a short time.

You don’t want to take part in this crowd.

Lesson No.4

This is a big one.

I hope that you are still here.

We tend to overcomplicate life because we can't stand in front of reality.

Ok, I’ll explain this to you with just one good example.

Let’s say you want to lose weight or even gain weight by adding some muscle mass.

You hop on Google or YouTube, and you start to search for a video or an article that will explain to you how to do this.

Video after video, article after article and 99% of what you find sounds like this:

“Drink one raw egg at 10:13 AM after you did a water fast for 14.5 hours to be able to lose weight and to put on 10 pounds of pure muscle mass. “

I’ve exaggerated, but you got me.

I’ve been into health and fitness for more than 2 years now. I watched thousands of videos about everything related to diets, and this is my realization.

The only way to lose weight is to consume fewer calories than you burn. That’s it.

Calories in, calories out. Nothing else.

But people can’t face this. They don’t want to accept that they only need to eat less to lose weight, so they come up with all this type of complicated bullshit.

Things in life are simpler than you believe. You just need to accept reality.

You want better grades? Do more schoolwork.

You want to lose weight? Eat less.

You want to write better? Write more.

Simple, stupid and boring.

Lesson No.5

This is a more philosophical lesson.

It’s about memento mori.

If you don’t know, memento mori is about being aware that we will die someday.

Life is temporary. But think about it. We live our lives as if we are about to live forever. We are not aware of the fact that we are going to die.

As a result, most people live their lives in the fear of what others think about them.

They do things that they don’t enjoy impressing people who don’t give a shit about them.

And this is sad. Probably this is why I consider this to be the most important lesson.

Once you become aware, you start to enjoy life as it is.

You start to do what you want to do.

Because you realize that in the end you are going to die, and no one is going to care about it.

In 3 generations no one will remember you.

So go do what you want. Don’t waste your time being afraid of what others will think about you.

It doesn’t matter.

Wait!

Before we wrap this up, I want to make an announcement.

I started to work on a big project.

It’s going to be something for you.

I’ll create a product that I strongly believe will solve 90% of the problems you face on Twitter when you begin the journey and not only.

But it will take a while because I want to give you the best product ever.

The most value that I can provide to you.

Most likely it will be free.

I’ll tell you more about it as we go.

This was it for today.

I wish you a great and productive week ahead.

Thank you for your time and don’t forget until next week:

Show up daily and make your life worth living.

Adios amigos!
